Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has appealed to the United States government to provide Nigeria with advanced security technology rather than issue threats of military intervention.
Kwankwaso’s statement came in response to recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, who reportedly classified Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” and hinted at possible military action over alleged persecution of Christians.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook page, Kwankwaso expressed deep worry over the growing rhetoric from the American president, stressing that Nigeria remains a sovereign nation dealing with complex security challenges that cut across all segments of society.
“It is important to reiterate that Nigeria is a sovereign nation facing numerous security threats from criminal groups across the country. These challenges affect citizens irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation,” he wrote.
The former governor urged the US to channel its support toward helping Nigeria strengthen its security architecture through the use of modern technology capable of combating terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes.
“The United States should help Nigerian authorities by providing advanced technological tools to fight insecurity, rather than making pronouncements that could further divide our nation,” he stated.
Kwankwaso also called on the Nigerian government to strengthen its diplomatic engagements with Washington by appointing competent envoys and ambassadors to represent Nigeria’s interests effectively.
“The Nigerian government should consider sending special envoys and appointing permanent ambassadors to engage the US government and safeguard our national interests,” he advised.
He further urged Nigerians to remain united and avoid divisions during this critical period.
“To my fellow Nigerians, this is a time to prioritise unity and national cohesion over division,” he added.
