Tinubu Assures U.S. of Victory Over Terrorism, Swears In Two New Ministers

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday reaffirmed his administration’s determination to end terrorism in Nigeria, assuring the United States and other international partners of the government’s unwavering commitment to national security and stability.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu addressed concerns raised by U.S. President Donald Trump, noting that despite political challenges, Nigeria remains focused on strengthening its global partnerships and sustaining progress on multiple fronts.

The President made these remarks shortly after swearing in two new ministers — Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, from Enugu State, and Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State. The ceremony took place at the Council Chamber before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

Dr. Udeh, who previously served as Enugu State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, replaced Chief Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, who resigned over allegations of certificate forgery. Dr. Doro succeeded Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who now serves as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During the FEC meeting, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, presented an update on Nigeria’s economic performance, revealing that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.23 percent in the second quarter of 2025 — the highest quarterly growth recorded in a decade, excluding the post-COVID recovery period.

In response, President Tinubu commended the progress but emphasized the challenges ahead, urging continued unity and resilience.

“So, the task ahead is immense. We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism in the country. The task ahead is immense, but we are resolved to move forward with unity and purpose, guided by the Renewed Hope Agenda to build a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient Nigeria,” he said.

The FEC also observed a minute of silence in honour of the late Senator Solomon Ewuga, a former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, and General Mohammed Abdullahi, former Chief of Staff to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Senator Ewuga and General Abdullahi were both recognized for their distinguished service to the nation during their respective tenures in government.
