President Bola Tinubu, on Saturday, paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, in Bauchi State, describing his passing as a “great national loss.”
Speaking during the visit, Tinubu said the late cleric lived a life marked by humility, service, and deep commitment to humanity. He prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the scholar and for his soul to be granted Jannatul Firdaus.
The President also prayed for strength and comfort for the family, as well as the government and people of Bauchi State. In honour of the late cleric’s contributions to knowledge and nation-building, Tinubu announced that the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare, will be renamed after him.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to continue to pray for peace and unity across the country, stressing the need for collective resilience during challenging times.
Responding on behalf of the family, Sheikh Ibrahim Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, son of the late cleric, expressed appreciation to the President for the visit and his prayers. He also commended Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Muhammad, for his continued support to the family.
Governor Muhammad thanked President Tinubu for honouring the memory of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi and for identifying with the people of the state during their moment of grief.
The President was accompanied by a delegation including the governors of Yobe and Plateau states, as well as representatives of the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
