At least nine people have been confirmed dead following an Iranian missile attack on the Israeli city of Beit Shemesh on Sunday, marking the deadliest strike in Israel since the outbreak of the current conflict.
The country’s emergency medical service, Magen David Adom (MDA), confirmed the casualties in a statement, saying its emergency medical technicians and paramedics pronounced nine people dead at the scene. Twenty-eight others sustained injuries of varying degrees after a missile directly hit a residential building in the area.
Police authorities described the incident as a direct impact on a structure, resulting in severe destruction. The blast left the building heavily damaged, with its roof collapsing into a mass of shattered concrete and twisted iron rods.
Dozens of rescue personnel were deployed to the site shortly after the explosion. Emergency workers combed through the rubble in a frantic effort to locate survivors feared trapped beneath the debris. Rescue teams were seen bringing in heavy equipment to aid the ongoing search operation.
Photographs from the scene captured the scale of devastation, showing a residential house reduced to ruins. Thick smoke lingered in the air as frightened residents emerged from nearby damaged buildings.
According to eyewitness accounts from the scene, emergency responders continued searching for individuals believed to be buried under the collapsed structure.
Yehuda Shlomo, a paramedic with MDA, described the aftermath as harrowing. He said he encountered extensive structural damage, smoke-filled surroundings, and widespread panic among residents.
“When I arrived, I saw a terrible scene,” Shlomo said in a statement. “There was heavy structural damage, smoke in the air, and a great deal of chaos, with dozens of frightened casualties coming out of the damaged buildings.”
Search and rescue operations remained ongoing as authorities worked to account for all residents in the affected area.
