Strait of Hormuz to Remain Open During Ceasefire, Iran Assures

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has announced that the strategic Strait of Hormuz will remain fully open to commercial shipping for the duration of the ongoing ceasefire in the Middle East.
In a statement shared on Friday via his X account, Araghchi said the passage for all commercial vessels through the vital waterway has been declared “completely open” for as long as the ceasefire remains in effect.
However, it remains unclear whether the minister was referring to the recently implemented 10-day truce between Lebanon and Israel, which began at midnight, or the earlier two-week ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States that commenced on April 8.
Reacting to the development, US President Donald Trump welcomed Iran’s decision, expressing appreciation in a post on his Truth Social platform. He noted that Iran had confirmed the Strait of Hormuz was “fully open and ready for full passage,” describing the move as significant for global shipping and energy supply.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for a substantial share of the world’s oil shipments, had been effectively shut on February 28 following the outbreak of hostilities involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
Iran later agreed to reopen the waterway as part of its ceasefire arrangement with Washington. However, uncertainty persists over whether the truce extends to cover tensions involving Lebanon, leaving aspects of the broader regional situation unresolved.
