Supreme Court Ruling Ends PDP Leadership Crisis — Wike Declares “No More Factions

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that factional divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have come to an end following a decisive ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Speaking at his residence in Abuja on Thursday shortly after the judgment, Wike said the court’s decision has conclusively resolved the party’s prolonged leadership dispute.
“The Supreme Court judgment has now made it clear that there is only one PDP. The issue of factions no longer exists,” he said.
The apex court dismissed the appeal filed by a faction led by Kabiru Turaki and nullified the PDP national convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025. The convention had produced a leadership team headed by Tanimu Turaki.
In its ruling, the court held that the convention was conducted in violation of existing court orders and described it as an abuse of judicial process. The decision effectively brings an end to months of internal wrangling within the opposition party.
Wike also reacted to the implications of the judgment for key figures who supported the Turaki-led faction, including Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, suggesting that their political position within the party has been significantly weakened.
“I don’t know where they are going to pitch their tent,” he remarked.
The FCT minister reaffirmed the legitimacy of the convention organised by the group loyal to Abdulrahman Mohammed, held in March 2026, which returned members of the National Working Committee under his leadership.
Wike further stated that the PDP would not accommodate members aligned with Atiku Abubakar who are currently associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing them as political liabilities rather than assets.
