Reports indicate that the Police have arrested two persons, including the Bayelsa State sender of the Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition linked to the killing of 28-year-old Oghenemine Ogidi by ASP Nuhu Usman in Effurun, Delta State.
Sources disclosed that the two suspects were brought into the Effurun Area Command under the Delta State Police Command on Wednesday night as investigations continue into the movement of the firearm and the circumstances surrounding Ogidi’s death.
According to a source familiar with the investigation, the arrests are part of efforts to track down all individuals connected to the transportation of the gun and bullets, as well as those allegedly involved in the fatal shooting.
While the Police authorities are yet to officially comment on the development, a source confirmed the arrests, saying one of the suspects is believed to be the individual who sent the firearm through a transport company from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to Effurun.
The source further revealed that the deceased, popularly known as “Mine,” allegedly picked up the package in Effurun with the intention of delivering it to the owner in Sapele. He was reportedly intercepted at the Effurun Motor Park, where he was allegedly extrajudicially killed by ASP Nuhu Usman and others.
Investigations are said to be ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full details surrounding the case and apprehend all persons connected to the incident.
