A 300-level Law student of the University of Ibadan, identified as Tomisin, has reportedly gone missing while returning from a religious conference in Imo State.
Tomisin, who serves as the National Secretary of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Nigeria, and Vice-President of the fellowship’s University of Ibadan chapter, was said to have attended the Scripture Union National Conference held at the Camp of Faith in Okigwe alongside the fellowship’s National General Director, Engr. Uwem Cosmos, and other participants.
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Ibadan confirmed the development in a statement issued by its President, Comrade Temidayo Adeboye.
According to the statement, reports suggesting that eight University of Ibadan students are missing are inaccurate, as Tomisin is the only student of the institution currently unaccounted for.
The union said it has begun engaging relevant stakeholders and security agencies to gather facts surrounding the incident and support efforts to locate the student.
Concern over Tomisin’s whereabouts grew after she failed to sit for her faculty examinations on Monday and Tuesday.
It was gathered that another University of Ibadan student from the Department of Music who attended the conference returned safely. However, the vehicle conveying the fellowship’s National General Director has yet to be located.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ademola Lewis, confirmed that the university is aware of the situation, although the institution was not informed about the trip before it took place.
He assured that efforts are ongoing to ensure the student’s safe return and urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information as investigations continue.
