The Nigerian Army has clarified the circumstances surrounding the arrest of popular blogger and social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere, widely known as Justice Crack.
In an official statement issued over the weekend and signed by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the Army said it became aware of a social media post by Chidiebere highlighting complaints from some soldiers regarding their feeding conditions and overall welfare.
According to the statement, the Army launched an investigation into the matter to determine whether there had been a breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy or an attempt to spread misinformation. Preliminary findings, however, indicated that Chidiebere allegedly engaged the soldiers in discussions that could incite discontent and undermine discipline within the ranks.
The Army expressed concern over what it described as the involvement of civilians in influencing military personnel toward actions that could threaten order and national security. It noted that such interactions carry serious implications for the integrity and stability of the armed forces.
Chidiebere was subsequently arrested alongside the soldiers involved. While the soldiers remain in military custody, the blogger has been handed over to relevant civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reaffirming its commitment to due process, the Nigerian Army stated that all actions taken were within the bounds of the law. It added that it will continue to work with appropriate agencies to ensure accountability while safeguarding national security.
The Army emphasized that it remains dedicated to upholding discipline within its ranks and protecting the sovereignty of the nation.
