A wave of fear and anger has spread across Nigeria following the emergence of a disturbing video showing a kidnapped student of the University of Jos, identified as John Arum, who was abducted while travelling from Jos to Kaduna.
Reports indicate that the abductors allegedly used the victim’s mobile phone to record and circulate videos of him being tortured, sharing the footage directly in his class group chat. The disturbing clip, which has since gone viral, shows the student in visible distress as he pleads for his life while being subjected to physical abuse.
A fellow student, Ezikima Asunga, confirmed the incident, stating that the victim is his coursemate and expressing concern that the family may not yet have been formally reached, as no direct communication has been established with them.
The video has sparked widespread condemnation across social media, with many Nigerians decrying the worsening security situation in the country. Some users noted that the kidnappers were not masked, raising concerns that they could potentially be identified and apprehended.
Public reactions have continued to mount, with calls directed at security agencies, including the police and military, to act swiftly to secure the student’s release and bring the perpetrators to justice. Many citizens have described the incident as part of a growing national security crisis requiring urgent intervention.
